At this museum, you can follow the process from shearing to yarn, and you can even see live demonstrations of sheep being sheared, and yarn being spun.

History buffs are going to be positively bowled away by the National Museum of Ireland, where the highlight has to be the selection of incredible artefacts that have been dug up from archaeological excavations. There are collections of prehistoric metals and gold, an exhibition that explores the myths from the Battle for Dublin, Bronze Age Irish tools and weaponry, and lots more besides. Once inside, you’ll be bowled over by the choice of Irish meat, seafood, cheese, and charcuterie. Whiskies are also a specialty at McCambridge’s, and when is there a better time for a midday tipple than when you’re on holiday?

 

Hike The Kerry Way Trail

 

If you are really serious about walking, you need to know about The Kerry Way. But don’t think that this is some kind of afternoon hike, it’s actually a 200km signposted trail that starts at finishes in scenic Kilkenny. The lovely thing about this trail is that you have the opportunity to traverse all kinds of terrain, from tarmac roads through to trails in the mountains. The trail typically takes 9 days to complete, it’s a feat of physical endurance, and it’s 100% worth the effort.
